Publisher's Summary:
The search for the legendary Great South Land began in 1557 when Alvaro de Mendana led the first Spanish voyage of exploration deep into the uncharted waters of the South Pacific. In his wake came the English corsairs, Francis Drake and the bloodthirsty Thomas Cavendish, commissioned by Queen Elizabeth to seek out Terra Australis and plunder Spanish interests anywhere in the world. Then came the Dutch and the Portuguese but Terra Australis eludes them all.
Tumara and Naomi are the Children of the Sun, the last of a tribe of South Sea Islanders, forced to flee their idyllic island home by European encroachment into the Pacific. They are the only two people alive who know where Terra Australis lies and they seek sanctuary there, hoping to start a new life. But their hopes are shattered when they are separated and enslaved by Mendana and Drake and taken to Spain and England. Eventually their love and determination reunites them and they return to the South Pacific only to find themselves caught in the crossfire of a desperate power struggle by European nations for supremacy in the region and a renewed search for Terra Australis.

An engaging sea yarn
This is an engaging story with compelling, likeable, believable characters. As a long-time student and reader of maritime history, it seemed to me that the author has a good sense of historical accuracy surrounding this fiction tale. What I found especially interesting was his vision of encounters on the beach between traditional indigenous Pacific Islanders and the European ships crews, giving an almost plausible comprehension of how some of the atrocious events may have occured. For any history buff or lover of sea stories, this is a great read. And the Kindle price (free) is a wonderful bargain. Download it and enjoy!
CHILDREN OF THE SUN
I AM VERY IMPRESSED WITH THE WAY DAVID CROOKES WRITES HIS VERY ENTHRALLING STORIES. THIS BOOK IS NO EXCEPTION. I FOUND ITVERY INTERESTING FROM BEGINNING TO END AND THE PROWESS OF THE CHILDREN OF THE SUN WITH THEIR LIMITED RESOURCES IS INGENUOUS. THEY REALLY HAD A GREAT SENSE OF CARING AND TENACITY THAT WE TODAY HAVE LOST. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS BOOK AND THIS AUTHOR TO ANY PERSON LOOKING FOR AN INTERESTING READ AND VERY WELL WRITTEN STORY.
Children of the sun
This is not something I normally read, but it was enjoyable. I will again try one of this writer's books. The people seems so really in the way the book is written.
And it is free?
This is a really well written piece and I couldn't put the book down. It is as good as anything up here from regular authors. This author should keep going, as the book is worth paying for and I will be looking for more. Thank you for the really well researched book and I wish you every success as an author - you are worthy enough to be successful.
Children of the Sun
I'm not much of a reviewer, but..... This is a very good read. The people in the book just draw you in, as though you were right there with them. It was a little wordy in places but was needed to tie in with future events. Sure wish there was a book two to this one. Read it you won't be sorry you did.
