China is preparing to pass new laws that would ban the trade and consumption of wildlife, but critics fear that there will be many loopholes. Also, while China has domestically banned this trade, there are fears that illegal poaching of Jaguars, inside of South America, can be linked to Chinese investment and demand back home. In this episode, Drew and Alex look into the exotic animal trade and the reasons as to why there is still a large demand for exotic animals and Traditional Chinese Medicine. This issue has again become relevant due to the COVID-19 pandemic which is linked back to the trade of wildlife in wet markets in China. The two discuss that this could be a hard issue to combat, mainly because there are the opposing forces of culture, tradition, conservation, and modern science.
