China Locks Down Cities to Contain Virus

Chinese authorities are locking down three cities that are home to more than 18 million people. The lockdown comes as part of an effort to contain a new virus that has sickened hundreds during China's busy Lunar New Year travel period.

Police and soldiers guarded the train station in Wuhan, a city of 11 million, where only travelers with tickets for the last trains out were allowed to enter. Authorities also closed the airport and stopped ferry, subway and bus services, and police checked all vehicles entering the city.

Local authorities in Wuhan demanded all residents wear masks in public places.
