It’s been a whirlwind of a week, following the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou. In the words of South China Morning Post reporter Ian Young, the bail hearing “was so Vancouver it made my eyes water”, with bail guarantors including a ‘homemaker’ and a ‘part time yoga instructor’ willing to risk thousands in cash and equity to secure Meng’s release.  The reporter, who for years, has been tracking China’s political influence in Canada, weighs in on the circus.
