Publisher's Summary:
Over one billion people speak Chinese. The two most common dialects are Mandarin and Cantonese. They are not mutually intelligible. Mandarin is the official language in mainland China, Taiwan, and Singapore. The Mandarin dialect is used in most Chinese schools and in most TV programs, movies, and radio stations throughout the country, even in Guangzhou (formerly Canton), where people speak Cantonese in their daily lives. Mandarin is one of the five official languages of the United Nations.
Chinese (Mandarin) Phase 4, Units 1-30 is a new 30-unit course designed to be completed after Mandarin phase 3. Thirty 30-minute lessons, totaling 15 hours of spoken Mandarin language learning, plus one hour of culture notes, are included. These notes are designed to provide you with a deeper understanding of Chinese culture as well as to expand upon topics discussed in the course. Phase 4 builds upon skills taught in Pimsleur's Mandarin phases 1-3. You'll be speaking and understanding Mandarin with near fluency and with a broad range of conversational skills. In phase 4 the pace and conversation moves more rapidly, accelerating exposure to new vocabulary and structures and approaching native speed and comprehension. You'll learn to speak about your professional and personal lives, needs, and likes and dislikes and to create complex sentences.
A few of the topics included in Chinese (Mandarin) Phase 4, Units 1-30: business, personal life, activities, food, vacationing, important topics (such as allergies, food likes and dislikes), and understanding the Chinese.
Critic Reviews:
"Pimsleur programs provide plenty of positive reinforcement that will keep learners on track, and we found that Pimsleur gave us more proficiency and confidence in speaking the new language than any of the other language programs we reviewed." (AudioFile magazine)

Excellent Study Material
This is by far one of the best Mandarin study programs I've used. I've worked through one through four. I can't wait to listen to level 5.
If I had one suggestion, it would be to include a PDF script.
great quality, excellent course
The native speakers can be a little tricky to understand at times, but keep with it and everything is repeated to provide clarity. VERY good course, can't wait to continue to the next lesson.
Pimsleur is a great tool for language learning
my on the street speaking here in mainland China always shows immediate improvement in both vocab and pronunciation from studying with these programs, and though I'm not near Beijing - there are dialect differences including pronunciation here - it seriously improves my ability to be understood by and to understand people around me.
I'm docking one star - though really, it should not be that much of a deduction - because one of the female native speakers in the level 4 lessons is really hard to understand. And, yes, I'm used to interpreting even muddled/blurred/non-enunciated accents, and this voice is not /that/ hard to understand, but in a language learning audio lesson, it's frustrating to be repeating and parsing a word to try to determine the exact sounds I'm supposed to be imitating - e.g.
