When your hero takes a wound and begins to bleed, lots of things start happening.  The bodies defenses kick in and it begins to repair itself. Which is good. That's what you want it to do. But it does take a dreadfully long time, doesn't it? Thank goodness for magical healing.

But what happens to everyone else in your fantasy world of choice? There are lots of people who need healing on any given day, and they don't all have access to it magically.
