Chiseled Ep 109 - Mastering the Art of Memory - Ron White

Listen Later

Ron White is a two-time USA Memory champion. He has memorized the first seven chapters of the book of Proverbs, the U.S. Constitution, and the names of every service member fallen in Afghanistan, where he served as a naval intelligence specialist.

Ron has appeared all over the world displaying his feats of memory, including on National Geographic's "Brain Games," Fox TV's "Superhuman," and History Channel's "Superhumans." He shares his skills at workshops for corporations like Microsoft, General Motors, and Century 21, among others.

His purpose is not to perform parlor tricks. Though Ron's abilities will delight and amaze, he wants to create something beautiful with the human brain — his own and others.

"I really enjoy sharing what I have spent my life learning," he said.

Ron discovered the power of the human mind while an 18-year-old University of Texas freshman with a 0.9 GPA. He started working as a telemarketer for a chimney cleaning company, when during a chance call, he spoke with a man selling memory-building classes. That led to him to a new job in Dallas, where he discovered the power of the human mind.

"Two or three years in, it became more about memory for me than anything. I didn't just want to be a salesman or a businessman. I wanted to be a memory expert," he said.

Ron says there's no secret formula to having a superhuman memory. Instead, memory is all about learning how the brain works and using mastery techniques, which he teaches through his company BrainAthlete.com.

"My mind is no better than anybody else's," he said. "Anybody can develop their memory beyond their wildest imaginations."

So how does it work? You'll have to listen to this week's episode of Chiseled to learn a little more about that. And when you do, you'll be surprised to discover what a washing machine, a dam, a chef, medications, and a rowboat have to do with the first five presidents of the United States and giving a great speech. And if you remember afterward, give me a call to tell me what you think.
