Hard work, perseverance, and determination can lead to great achievements that can yield impressive rewards. Some individuals spend their whole lives chasing those rewards: corner offices, expensive cars, fancy clothes, big houses. Yet most folks dedicated to achievement eventually discover that the rewards they worked so hard to earn don’t satisfy for long.
True success, on the other hand, brings something that no material benefit can ever deliver: fulfillment. John Piper once wrote, “The deepest, most satisfying delights God gives through creation are free gifts from nature and from loving relationships with people.” We cannot gain lasting fulfillment through material items and personal achievements.
God earnestly desires that people enjoy fullness of life. Jesus said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). God wants us to live a spiritually abundant, successful life. Sometimes, God blesses us with material goods that he wants us to use for Him. God fills His people so that their fullness of life can go beyond them. Let’s reach our world for Christ, showing everyone what true fulfillment is.
