Choose to Grow – Your Better Self is Waiting EP. 210
Welcome to today’s episode, this is your New Year's sermon in disguise. I know, I know, it’s already February, but guess what? You’ve still got 11 months ahead, and there’s a better version of you waiting in the future. The question is, will you let that version of you come to life?
Growth happens in relationships. First, your relationship
with God. But let’s not separate that from our relationships with others, because Jesus didn’t. In John 17, He prayed that we would be one, just as He and the Father are one. That means unity both vertically, with God, and horizontally, with each other.
So, what happens if you choose to grow? Let’s say you focus on just one or two relationships, your spouse, a friend, your church family. What if, in three or six months, those relationships deepen? What if they move from a four to an eight on your personal scale of meaning? How does that change your life?
In 2 Corinthians 9:6, Paul reminds us: “He who sows
sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.” Think of it this way, you’ve got two farmers. One buys a tiny $0.99 packet of seeds, and the other has a 100-pound bag. Even if only half the seeds grow, who’s going to have the greater harvest? Simple math. You reap what you sow.
The same goes for relationships. The more you invest, the
more you grow. You don’t have to be the best. Just bring what you have to the table. Peter stumbled and bumbled his way forward, but he kept stepping forward. And in doing so, he became one of the most influential figures in the New
Testament.
So, what about you? Will you step out of the boat? Will you embrace the awkwardness of growth? The better version of you is waiting, but only if you choose to grow.
