I'll bet you didn't even know you could choose to lead yourself.  I know I didn't when I started my management career.

When we are building careers it is easy to get caught up in the titles and salaries.  Those are visible measures of ‘success.’

However, great leaders have learned to understand that the title has nothing to do with leadership. They also understand it is their responsibility to align their values and behaviors, lead themselves and to have a positive, lasting impact on others. That’s what true legacy is.

Becky Halstead held one of the highest titles in this land – soldier. That’s how she defines herself, when in reality most of us would focus on her title of Brigadier General.

Behind every title is a human being who either chooses to make an impact or gets lost in the shuffle of meaningless criteria.
