Our beloved family physician retired recently. We were fussy about choosing a new doctor. We wanted someone who demonstrated excellent medical knowledge and the same kind of care and compassion we had received in the past. Countless phone calls to potential doctors usually ended with “we are not accepting new patients at this time.” It’s hard to measure a doctor’s qualities by reading on-line reviews or biographies. Time will tell if our new doctors will be a fit for us!
Though we were frustrated with the process, we were reminded that our real Physician is our Lord. God does not take our pulse or measure our blood pressure, but He does heal our hearts and bind up our wounds. Unlike choosing a doctor, we didn’t choose Him — He chose us at our baptism and gave us new life in Him.
