Choosing Love with Scarlett Lewis

Listen Later

Love unites us and changes lives.”   When tragedy strikes, it can be so difficult to bounce back or even continue on. On Dec. 14, 2012, Adam Lanza fatally shot 20 children and 6 staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. Out of those 20, Jesse Lewis (age 6) bravely told his classmates to run for cover. Almost six years later, the tragic moment is still playing.   Through forgiveness I took my personal power back.” On that day, Jesse’s mother, Scarlett Lewis, was devastated. The country was shaken with one of the largest mass shootings in decades. When Scarlett arrived back to her home, she noticed Jesse had left a message on his chalkboard. It said, “Nurturing. Healing. Love.” Scarlett took this as a sign and set off to create the movement known now as Jesse Lewis Choose Love Foundation. Their goal is to make sure every child has access to Social Emotional Learning (SEL) as well as awareness that Love is a choice.   Even for someone who’s walking down the street, you’re impacting thousands of people.”   Scarlett continues to travel the world spreading her son’s message. Through her own pain, sadness, and hurt, she strives everyday to live by the Choosing Love Formula: Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action = Choosing Love. In this practice, she has learned and discovered that she needed to forgive Adam Lanza to be able to help any other children in that much pain.   The WHY / / Bring SEL to all children and awareness that anyone can CHOOSE Love   Enjoy Scarlett’s journey as she dives into her practice of forgiveness, real emotions around tragedy, and her process of choosing love.   Follow Scarlett & JLCLM Website Instagram Facebook Twitter   *Our hearts and prayers go out to all of the families and friends who were impacted by the shooting in Parkland, FL.
