Paperwork appears to be sucking the joy out of the teaching profession.

The Government's launched an education workforce strategy to address a looming teacher shortage.

One of the goals is to cut the amount of admin and paperwork required of teachers.

Education Minister Chris Hipkins told Mike Hosking teaching has lost its shine.

"Teachers have said to us put the fun back into teaching and we will stick around. That's what we are aiming to do."
