  • Living to Please God (1 Thess 4)

In this month of giving thanks we do well to consider our past, present and future with Jesus. Every day we make choices to please ourselves or to please God that will affect the adventure that we live and the legacy that we leave. We will be looking at 1 Thessalonians 4. Come to Rockwell Church this Sunday at 10:15am to be encouraged to love God’s family and to live to please God.

  • The Day of the Lord (Zephaniah)

What does the Bible say about the future—and why does it matter today? In this message from Zephaniah, Pastor Chris Teien explores The Day of the Lord and what it means for believers and the nation of Israel. Though this small book may seem grim at first glance, it holds vital truths about God’s justice, restoration, and our hope in Christ’s return.

    Key Points:

    1. The Day of the Lord Is a Time of Judgment – Zephaniah 1 describes a day of reckoning for sin and rebellion.
    2. God Protects the Humble and Repentant – Zephaniah 2:3 invites us to seek the Lord for shelter from wrath.
    3. God Has a Future Plan for Israel – Zephaniah 3 reveals a day of purification, peace, and restored worship.
    4. The Church Will Be Raptured Before Judgment – 1 Thessalonians 4 and Revelation 20 support a hopeful future.
    5. Jesus Will Reign as King Over All – Zephaniah 3:17 celebrates God's presence, joy, and justice on earth.

    Personal Stories from Pastor Chris:

    • Candid reflection on differing end-times views and how he remains a “hopeful pre-trib” believer.
    • How King Josiah’s national revival was influenced by Zephaniah’s prophecy.
    • Encouragement to trust Jesus even when we don’t fully grasp God’s timeline.

    • “Zephaniah’s message is a call to live humbly, urgently, and faithfully.”
    • “You don’t have to decode every prophecy—you just need to follow Jesus now.”

    Actionable Takeaways:

    1. Seek the Lord daily with humility and trust.
    2. Share your hope with others as the world grows darker.
    3. Support Israel and pray for its peace and future.
    4. Study prophecy to strengthen your faith, not to fear the future.

  • The Lords Prayer for Missions | Guest Steve Yatckoske

Missions Sunday reminds us that communication with God through prayer is essential. Jesus gave His disciples the Lord’s Prayer as a model, and in this episode, we explore how it connects to the global church and spreading the gospel to every nation, tribe, people, and language.

Our guest, Pastor Steve Yatckoske, and his wife, Alice, serve Nett Lake Baptist Church on the Bois Forte Reservation in northern Minnesota. With a population of just over 350 people, Nett Lake is a tight-knit community. Steve shares how they engage the community, build relationships, and share God’s Word in a culturally meaningful way.

    Key Themes in This Episode:

    • The Lord’s Prayer as a guide for missions-focused prayer
    • Challenges missionaries face in cross-cultural ministry
    • How culture shapes how people receive the gospel
    • Ways to pray for and support missionaries

    Missions and The Lord’s Prayer:

Steve connects Matthew 6:9-13 to missions, showing how:

    • “Our Father” reminds us that we are part of a global family of believers.
    • “Your kingdom come” calls us to pray for the gospel to spread worldwide.
    • “Give us today our daily bread” recognizes missionaries’ reliance on God’s provision.
    • “Forgive us our debts” reflects the need for reconciliation in broken communities.
    • “Deliver us from evil” is a prayer for spiritual protection for those in ministry.

Reaching the Ojibwe People with the Gospel:

Steve shares how the Ojibwe culture highly values community, elders, and honoring veterans. Many have experienced deep pain from historical events like boarding schools that separated families. Because of this, building trust is key before sharing the gospel.

Missionaries must present biblical truths in ways that resonate with people’s hearts while staying true to Scripture. For example, many Ojibwe people refer to God as the “Great Creator”, so missionaries start by connecting on that shared belief before introducing the full gospel.

How You Can Get Involved in Missions:

    1. Pray for missionaries and unreached people groups using resources like Joshua Project and Operation World.
    2. Support missions financially and through encouragement. Many missionaries face loneliness, cultural barriers, and spiritual challenges.
    3. Consider serving in missions. Teachers, pilots, mechanics, computer specialists, and translators all have roles in spreading the gospel.
    4. Share God’s love in your own community. Missions start at home!

    Final Encouragement:

Every believer has a role in the Great Commission. Prayer is one of the most powerful ways to support missions. As Steve and Alice continue serving Nett Lake, we are reminded that God is working in every nation, and He invites us to be part of it.

  • The Shield of Faith - Protecting Against Satan's Attacks (Eph 6:16)

We are in a message series looking at the “Full Armor of God” passage from Ephesians 6. Paul instructs us to “…take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” in verse 16. The Roman shield was crucial armor often covered in wet leather with a wood core to protect and defend the warrior. Together the soldiers could strategically use their shields together to push forward or defend as a group. Paul says this shield is made of faith and can effectively extinguish the flaming arrows of our evil enemy.

  • Confidently Sharing the Gospel of Peace (Eph 6:15)

We are in a message series looking at the “Full Armor of God” passage from Ephesians 6. Paul instructs us to, “Stand firm then… with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace” in verse 15. Shoes (more like sandals) enabled the soliders to travel further, move and fight with greater traction and stand longer and stronger. The Christian wearing God’s spiritual armor seeks to bring peace with God. Isaiah 52:7 says, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, the good news of peace and salvation, the news that the God of Israel reigns.” This Sunday we will have communion and be encouraged to boldly share the Gospel of Peace and Salvation as we purposely move forward in the “footwear” God has provided.

  • Guard your Heart with the Breastplate of Righteousness (Eph 6:14b)

We are in a message series looking at the “Full Armor of God” passage from Ephesians 6. Paul instructs us to, “Stand firm then… with the breastplate of righteousness in place” Ephesians 6:14 (NIV). The soldier’s body armor helped protect his heart and other vital organs to keep him alive. It also helped support his core and give him confidence in the battle. They were most successful when they had someone help them check the integrity of their body armor before the fight. In a spiritual battle, Satan will try to tempt us to sin and pierce our hearts. The wise words from Proverbs 4:23 warn us to, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (NLT). Come to Rockwell Church this Sunday to be encouraged that God offers the breastplate of righteousness to help us resist temptation and stand victorious in Him.

  • The Belt of Truth – Guarding Against the Enemys Lies (Eph 6:14a)

We are looking at the “Full Armor of God” passage from Ephesians 6. The soldier’s belt helped keep his loose clothes strapped securely to his body so they would not get in the way during the battle. It is called the belt of truth. Jesus says He is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6). The Christian who is secure in the truth will be able to stay standing. While Satan knows that we are protected by Christ, he also knows that he can distract us or even trip us up with lies and counterfeits. Come to Rockwell Church this Sunday to be encouraged that the truth that holds us together and keeps us from falling for those lies is the Word of God, rightly applied.
