Chris Underhill is truly a person whom I loved to bring on my podcast. More so when it was his birthday, and it was such a pleasure to hear the work, the values and his life matras while he celebrates his 74th ! We spoke about gratitude, simple joys of life, nourishing relationships, and looking after our mental wellbeing, as the pillars to make life joyous.
Starting his career with agriculture, and doing very impactful work in mental wellbeing space and a lot of things in the middle, Chris Underhill has spent more than 6 decades of his life uplifting people and communities.
Chris Underhill MBE is a professional mentor and a systems-based social entrepreneur in the field of disability and mental health. Chris has developed social enterprises actively working in Wellbeing and Resilience for example Thrive (www.thrive.org.uk) that works with vulnerable people of all kinds with gardening in the community. Chris runs his own mentoring practice called Mentor Services (www.mentorservices.org.uk) and is co-founder of the Elders Council for Social Entrepreneurs (www.elderscouncil.net), and has recently been appointed Chair of the Catalyst-2030 Mental Health Collaboration.
Here are some things we can do to take care of our mental wellbeing, as per Chris:
• Start with short meditative practices
• Simple acts like cooking together, walking in the park, spending time with our love ones, are magical
• Be of value to someone else’s life
• Humor in relationships helps to strengthen them
• Believing in self , loving ourselves and being compassionate to us, are the key to good mental wellbeing
It’s a very calming and reflective podcast!
