Fasting, properly understood, is not a discipline sons practice to get closer to God. It is a Mosaic ordinance fulfilled in Christ, and treating it otherwise is a direct disagreement with the finished work.
This teaching builds a precise case from the ground up. The dictionary definition of fasting and the biblical definition are not the same, and that difference is the difference between law and grace. Under the Mosaic covenant, priests fasted as an act of affliction tied to atonement for sin. Christ, as our High Priest, completed that atonement. He is our Sabbath. He is our rest. What that means practically is that New Covenant sons do not fast to get close to God, to hear from God, or to set a spiritual atmosphere, because any framework that requires you to do something to access what Christ has already finished places you outside the finished work entirely. The teaching is direct: you live a fasted life not by abstaining from food, but by living from what Christ has already done.
