Christ the Everlivng Priest

Listen Later

Psalm 110 reveals the dual reign of Christ as both eternal priest and righteous judge, rooted in divine oath and typology through Melchizedek. The passage affirms Christ's exalted position at the Father's right hand, where He rules in power and holiness, not only over His people but also over His enemies, demonstrating His advancing kingly authority. His priestly role, established forever according to the order of Melchizedek, is uniquely divine and eternal, enabling Him to intercede continuously for believers, atone for sin with infinite worth, and secure eternal salvation. At the same time, the psalm points to Christ's judicial reign, where He will execute final judgment with holy wrath against those who reject Him, fulfilling His role as both Prince of Peace for the redeemed and warrior king over the unrepentant. This dual nature of Christ—merciful to the faithful and just to the defiant—reveals the fullness of God's character and calls all to flee to Him in faith, trusting in His perfect righteousness alone for salvation.
