"Christen" is the first single to my upcoming 3rd album NOVA. After my Grandmother Wilma passed away last month, I put my process on pause to attend and speak at her funeral in Louisiana.

When I returned, I sought to process the emotional overwhelm and grief I didn't allow myself to feel in full until I was back in California. It was my birthday, but my body felt foreign. My apartment didn't feel like my apartment. My spirit didn't feel alive or present like it did before my grandmother transitioned.

A few days after Christmas of last year, I made "Christen" because I was told by my dear cousins in Texas and California that my grandmother would appreciate me continuing to make the music she loved.

It is one of the newest tracks produced from my upcoming album. My conflict between chronic depression, anxiety, and a desire to move on with my grief is woven into the track's modal melodies and kinetic rhythms. I'm excited that you finally get to hear my next stage in development.
