Notes:

Why do we keep celebrating Christmas despite the stress, chaos, and exhaustion that comes with it?

The holiday’s reveal a deep and unchanging truth about all of humanity…We long to be family.

Family reveals we're all flawed

Love-in-action to the rescue
Reconnection and reconciliation

The dysfunction of “self” damages our dream of family

Our relationship needs to be rescued by love.

Jesus answered, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.”

John 18:37

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.

John 3:16

You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly…But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Romans 5:6 & 8

God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.

Ephesians 1:5

Love that’s second not self–centered

Love that’s serves over self–consumption
Love that’s sacrifices in place of self–comfort

All of us need to be rescued from the dysfunction of self that damages our dream for life to work the way it’s supposed to.

The first Christmas is God chasing our rescue out of unconditional love!
