"Christmas at Thompson Hall" follows Mrs. Brown, a determined Englishwoman who drags her reluctant, throat-ailing husband from Paris to join the Thompson family Christmas gathering. In the dead of night, she sneaks through the hotel to fetch mustard for his sore throat — only to apply it to a sleeping stranger. The stranger turns out to be Mr. Barnaby Jones, her sister's fiancé, who then travels home on the same train, sits in furious silence across from her, and arrives at Thompson Hall alongside her.
