A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens, aired on December 24, 1939.

The story follows Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserly old man who detests Christmas and lives in bitter solitude. On Christmas Eve, he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Jacob Marley, who warns Scrooge that he will be doomed in the afterlife if he does not change his ways. Marley tells him he will be visited by three spirits.
