Sin is not primarily something you do. It is something that wants to own you.
This teaching draws a precise distinction between sin as action and sin as nature, anchored in the law of first mention from Genesis 4. Before Cain lifted a hand against Abel, God named what was already crouching at the door with a desire for mastery. That framing reorients everything. The fight against sin is not won by punishing the flesh or modifying behavior. It is won in the heart and mind, which is exactly where the Spirit works. Law could only reach conduct. Grace reaches the inner man. The teaching also addresses why the cycle of sin, forgiveness, shame, and repeat keeps running: it is a knowledge problem. What you know determines what you believe, what you believe shapes your decisions, and your decisions over time form your character. The enemy is not creative. He is strategic, cunning, and repetitive. He wins by exploiting patterns that have already worked. Sons who know that their victory in Christ is permanent stop giving him the pattern to repeat.
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 4:7, Romans 12:2, Proverbs 4:23, Matthew 6:22, Hebrews 12:2
