Wendy Lockinge relates an unpleasant visit from her old rival Detective Inspector 'Prudence' Parrswoode with his new assistant DC Dokic. They inform her that a member of her staff has been exchanging suspicious messages with a young
girl, revealing her identity as Jessica.
Parrswoode contrives to speak privately with Wendy, offering two days to find out the truth or otherwise of the information, and if true, the name of the member of staff.
Wendy starts her investigations with her assistant Orlando.
Before leaving the University, Parrswoode is distracted by a suspicious smell of Marijuana. His investigations come to an embarrassing end, giving Wendy some consolation as she starts her own more important investigations...
