As you have mourned, identified and started repairing while others are doing nothing; expect opposition! There is a reason why the Church is in ruins presently. A lot of people are perfectly happy with the current state as they benefit from it. They consider the Law of God and His idea of worship a major imposition if not a threat for their kingdoms and way of life. They prefer to be in control themselves and call it religion. This need not cause any anxiety on your part as you pursue a wholesome Church. Just be aware that your attemtps will probably not be welcomed by those who are in control of the region right now. Nehemiah's approach was sensible and spiritual: "We prayed to our God and posted a guard." As you uncover new filth, for sections of the wall the rubble may appear so much that restoration is practically impossible. You may have to rebuild from scratch. Uncover the plots of the enemy, don't keep silent about it, but show them for what they are. Then, take it one stone at a time.
