David Lloyd George was the Liberal Prime Minister in a Coaltion dominated by the Conservatives, Winston Churchill a Liberal colleague in the Cabinet - and very much the junior partner, characterising their relationship as that of "Master and Servant".

In government they faced issues such as rebellion in Ireland, the advent of a Bolshevik government in Russia, crises in the Middle East and growing domestic problems.
