Catch yerself on

Cinema, touch, and the climate movement with Laura U. Marks

Listen Later

This week, I had the pleasure and privilege of speaking with film scholar, author, and professor Laura. U Marks.
Laura is well-known in film studies for her work on affect theory and haptic visuality. She has inspired a generation of students to change the way they think about film. Her work has transformed film studies in a profound way.
In this episode, we talk about how films engage viewers through their bodies, discuss the relationship between spectatorship and power, and consider if we are increasingly drawn to haptic images because the pandemic has left us 'starved of touch'.
Laura, a leading voice in the climate movement - is also the founder of the 'Small File Media Festival', and we connect the climate crisis to issues around screening, film-making and production.
I am BEYOND excited to share this thoughtful conversation with you - hope you enjoy!
