Publisher's Summary:
What is Circling? Circling is a group conversation practice that usually lasts an hour to an hour and a half, involving three to nine people. Circling is part of a rapidly-growing worldwide movement called "Authentic Relating". It is already available in over 70 cities, and from anywhere via online webconferencing.
Why Circle? Circling is a unique developmental practice that is about "getting somebody's world", being seen and accepted for who we really are, and feeling connected to other human beings and part of a larger whole. Circling may also be our best modern-day hope for creating a kinder and gentler society, one that would be less polarized and more attuned to real human needs. And on top of all this, Circling is super-fun and very affordable! What will you learn in this book? This book will guide you, in a short (handbook) format and with many examples, into Circling effectively. It is a compact introduction to a relational art form that you can practice in all of your human relationships, both in and out of formal Circles.
About the Author Marc Bénéteau is an author, entrepreneur, community builder, and self-described "love revolutionary". This is his third book, and it distills his 30 years of research and practice in building community, emotional communication, and the psychology of love.
Members Reviews:
crafting a beautiful, compelling guide that distills the essence of Circling ...
I recently attended my first Circling meetup. I was so moved by the depth and power of the practice that I was unable to sleep afterwards. However, when my wife asked me the next morning, âwhat was it all about?â I struggled to explain what I had experienced. Then I found this guide. Marc Beneteau gives words to what is hard to express in language, crafting a beautiful, compelling guide that distills the essence of Circling and draws many useful distinctions. In my estimation, Circling is an example of something the human spirit has invented as a catalyst for its own evolution â and this guide is a gift offered in service of this movement - a catalyst for the catalyst, you might say. Thank you, Marc Beneteau, for offering us this gift.
A good overview!
A good overview of the what Circling is and the core elements of practice. He outlines the different flavors of how it's practiced by the Circling Institute, the Integral Centre and Circling Europe so you get some sense of the breadth of the Circling world. Marc gives personal impact of what Circling's done for him and that gives the story embodiment. Reading it helped me reflect on my own communication practices and how I feel about feedback and dealing with difficult areas. He also points to a coming revolution in personal communication, something I imagine Circling will be part of.
Must have for circlers.
This book is a must have for people practicing circling. It offers a history, an overview of the practice, and some of the most important skills to develop for the practice.
I highly recommend it.
I've been practicing circling since 2012 and was a facilitator in Portland, OR, and one of the founders of Authentic Montreal.
Thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated!
I thoroughly enjoyed and very much appreciated Marc's book on circling. I am new to circling and I became more and more excited about learning circling as I continued reading.
