That was how I spent the year of 1973, in the band of a travelling circus that travelled the length of South Africa from January to October of that year.

The Innfield Podcast is back. It's a warm and soft place to land, and mostly a feelgood spot.

If you haven't been here before, long-time former Network Radio host Richard Innfield looks at life with his signature sardonic eye every Monday . It could be social comment, consumer issues, politics, demystifying tech topics, travel, satire, reviews or the gleeful dismantling of self-important sacred cows where needed.

At the moment, though, we're embarked on a fact-filled travelogue around South Africa, that fascinating chunk of real estate down at the very bottom of Africa that gets such wide and conflicting publicity.

Everything from fornication to marketing, you could say - except for the fornication and the marketing, which you'll be relieved to hear are refreshingly absent.

Most podcasts seem to about self-development or marketing these days, and INNFIELD is about neither of those. I'm not going to try and wheedle money out of you or sell you anything.

There'll be quite a lot of nostalgia and general upbeat stuff. Nothing wrong with nostalgia - quite the reverse, in fact. If anyone scorns you because you enjoy nostalgia, stick your tongue out at them. It's very satisfying.

The latest episode of This is South Africa, part 2, is out now. I thought I'd develop this into a series, given the welcome and unexpected response to the first one.

After that, there'll be further half-hour episodes every Monday. I promise.
