CISLL is thrilled to bring you a new episode of CISLL Presents: A Language and Literacy Podcast! Our guest speaker is Dr. Yvette Hyter. The co-hosts, CISLL graduate assistant Megan Andrzejewski and content expert Dr. Allison Gladfelter, join Dr. Hyter.

Dr. Allison Gladfelter is a speech-language pathologist (SLP) and associate professor at Northern Illinois University's School of Allied Health and Communication Disorders. She teaches courses on social communication skills, including the social communication implications for children exposed to maltreatment. Her research explores language acquisition and motor skills in autistic children.

Dr. Yvette Hyter, an SLP with ASHA honors and Professor Emerita at Western Michigan University, specializes in trauma-informed and culturally responsive practices. She co-authored a textbook on culturally responsive methods and edited a book on language research in post-traumatic stress. She also focuses on social pragmatics in African American children. She co-directs the Resiliency Center for Families and Children, is a founding member of the SLHS Equity Action Collective, and owns Language & Literacy Practices, LLC, and a trauma institute for children and communication.
