During the cold winter months, there are few places busier than the university of Guelph fieldhouse on workout day. It’s not that it’s a small building, like most fieldhouses, it’s pretty big, it’s just full of athletes! In one corner, you have the sprinters practicing their starts, in the opposite corner there are the throwers doing their thing, beside them are the distance and mid-distance team meeting before they head out for their warmup and a little later the jumpers will arrive, long, triple and high jumpers alike. Like I said, it’s a busy place. In this series we’ve talked a lot about the distance guys, with more to come, and the sprinters, but what about the rest of the team? This week, we’re throwing and jumping as we join the “field” in “track and field” at the University of Guelph fieldhouse.
This week we chat with coaches and athletes alike and ask how they got to this place, what their training is like, how they fit into the track and field mosaic, and if they’ve found the Guelph environment helpful to their own development.
