The city of Philippi was a Roman colony. Visiting there was almost as good as being in Rome. the language, culture, architecture and everything else was Roman. The book of Philippians has this as a backdrop to teach us that as Christians, we are citizens of Heaven. We are ambassadors. And as Philippi gave a good representation of Rome, the Church should give a good representation of Heaven.
