Power Tower: Tatlin and Petrograd, London and Kapoor?
Professor John Milner (Courtauld Institute of Art) and the art collective Henry VIII's Wives (H8W)
The ArcelorMittal Orbit tower in London's Olympic Park is now the country's largest public artwork and is intended as a permanent piece of the Olympic legacy. The tower's designers, Anish Kapoor and Cecil Balmond, have acknowledged the visual reference to Vladmir Tatlin's unrealized Monument to the Third International. This event will explore the links between Tatlin's Tower and the ArcelorMittal Orbit and will consider how towers function as symbols of urban change.
