This Fall at CitySalt, we are taking time to explore six foundational ideas about God anchored in the Bible and early Christian tradition. Taken together, these aspects of God can provide something solid and reliable for us to hold onto in the midst of a world that feels so unsettled and unpredictable at times. Yet these truths about God are only known and learned as we walk in and experience them for ourselves. As a guide in this series, we will be using the book The Orthodox Way by Kallistos Ware. This book, written by a brilliant scholar of Eastern Orthodoxy, has proven to be a solid and hopeful guide for many people searching to make sense of who the Christian God really is and how Jesus Christ has made God known. Rather than presenting attributes of God as dry, abstract doctrines, Ware frames theology as a living, experiential journey toward communion with a relational God in whom we live and move and have our being.
With Ware’s book as a guide, we will explore these six core attributes of God:
God as Mystery
God as Trinity
God as Humanity
God as Creator
God as Spirit
God as Prayer
In the second of this series, Pastor Aaron explores what it means for us, as followers of Christ to serve a mysterious God.

In the first of this series, Pastor Aaron kicks us off with an introduction from the beginning of the book on God’s provision of signposts along the way to knowing Him better.
The weather outside is changing (it is raining outside as I write this), and so are many of our schedules and activities! As we transition from the Summer season to the Fall, this is a time where many of us also experience some kind of transition in our school, work and/or home life. As we regroup and refocus for the school year ahead, it seems important for us to give some attention to how we are maintaining and caring for a healthy life balance in all our relationships. Over the next month at CitySalt, we will take time during our Sunday gatherings to teach about four important rhythms of connection that God has called us to prioritize and care for in our lives:
Rest: Connecting with ourselves
Communion: Connecting with God
Community: Connecting with others
Service: Connecting with our purpose
There are already so many potential demands on our time and energy, and the goal of this series is not to give us all one more “to-do list” for the year ahead. Rather, the goal is to encourage us to stop and reflect on how we are using our time, and what relationships God might be asking us to emphasize or strengthen in this next season. Maybe there are some practices or people we have been neglecting. Maybe God is inviting us to try something new. Maybe it would be good for us to stop something. Maybe God is asking us to form some different patterns and habits for the sake of our own long-term physical, mental, relational, emotional, and spiritual health. It is easy for us to function on autopilot or simply let the loudest voices dictate our priorities. We hope this time will provide us all some space to tune our hearts and minds to the Spirit’s leading in our lives in these important areas. In the fourth of this series, Pastor Heather concludes our Rhythms of Connection series with insights as to how we are all commissioned to SERVE with the unique gifts the Holy Spirit has given us.

During this summer season, we want to take time in our Sunday gatherings to read and sit with some of Jesus’s expertly crafted parables and contemplate together what they might mean for our lives today. Join us this evening for a special service as Heather and Ruth walk us through reflections on our Summer teaching series, Jesus Storyteller, and some of the ways Jesus is active and at work in our own personal stories.
In the tenth and final sermon in our series, Jesus Storyteller, Pastor Aaron concludes with the 3 parables of things that are lost in Luke 15. Aaron invites us to consider how we might see God as a stingy taskmaster or as a compassionate father. He ends with an invitation to joy and celebration.
During this summer season, we want to take time in our Sunday gatherings to read and sit with some of Jesus’s expertly crafted parables and contemplate together what they might mean for our lives today. In this ninth sermon in our series, Jesus Storyteller, Pastor Aaron continues our teaching series on Jesus's Parables with the story of The Talents. What do we believe about God? Aaron challenges us to start with God’s unconditional love, and to trust the goodness of what God has given us.
In this eighth sermon in our series, Jesus Storyteller, Pastor Mike continues our preaching series in the parables, looking at some of the metaphors and comparisons Jesus used in this story and the Sermon on the Mount. There is a song of reflection followed by prayer at the end.
