Claiming your birthright: Navigating society's expectations on female sexuality.

Yes, I am sex positive. It doesn't mean I am having sex, or I am a slut. It just means I have dissociated myself with any guilt or shame that comes with sex. Pleasure is my f*****g birthright!!!

What Oluwemimo Precious said:

I just feel women should be sex positive. We should replace shame with fear and judgement with freedom.

Women are not sexual objects, but society tricks us into believing we are. I feel like we should be able to decide what our sexual life should be like.

All they ask us to do is pledge our virginity to our non-virgin husbands (I'm not saying keeping your virginity till marriage is bad). All I am saying is pleasure is our birthright too. Personally, I don't believe my virginity is for anybody. My virginity is for me!! And when I want to have sex, imma do it because I want it.

Most girls feel guilty when they get dis-virgined or ashamed. It becomes worse when they break up with the guy.

I don't know if I am making sense, but I don't know how to say what I am feeling.

Something happened and I had to move out of my hostel. In the process of looking for a hostel, I asked my dad if I could stay alone, and he said "No". Not because I am he doesn't have the money but because "Wemimo is a girl, she can't live alone". African parents are sometimes not comfortable with giving their female children freedom because of the fear of them having pre-marital sex. However, the boys are given freedom because "they are guys".

I don't know how you see this but all I am saying is "Your sex life is your sex life, own it!!!"

Yes, I am sex positive. It doesn't mean I am having sex or I am a slut. It just means I have dissociated myself with any guilt or shame that comes with sex. Pleasure is my f*****g birthright!!!
