Clark Wright has a passion for the practice of law in New Bern, North Carolina. He has an equal passion for the outdoors in general and hiking in particular.
In this new podcast, Clark tells the story of taking some months off from his law firm in the spring of 2001, rides with his wife Joanna to Springer, Georgia, and in March of that year starts what he hopes will be the walking of the entire Appalachian Trail, which is over 2, 200 miles long, ending in Maine.
He makes it to Pennsylvania when he is called to come home to his wife as he is about to become a father. He doesn't finish his journey until 2008, with several trips along the way.
Much of the time it is up, as in climbing hills and mountains, walking between 15 and 25 miles per day, sleeping at night by himself, either in a tent or under the stars. He takes you through the Great Smoky Mountains, with the longest part of the trail in Virginia.
He returned to North Carolina a changed person. He still loves the practice of law, but he knows now that he needs the outdoor hiking experience.
In future episodes, he will tell you about Mt. Ranier, in the state of Washington, the Grand Tetons, Yosemite, the Pecos Mountains Wilderness in New Mexico and many other trips as well.
Clark is a born storyteller. I hope you will see or listen to this first one.
