In this episode of Class Notes, we interviewed writer Jenah Maravilla, the co-author of "Filipinos in Houston," which is the first history of Filipino immigrants in the Houston area. Jenah is also a leader in the Texas chapter of the Pilipino American Unity for Progress (UNIPRO). In the first half of the episode, Jenah discusses her identity as a Filipino-American, or as she describes it in one of her stories, living "between the dash of Filipino and American." In the second half of the episode, Jenah discusses the goals of her nonprofit organization, and how she has reclaimed her identity and culture through the work she does in the Filipino-American community.
