Welcome back to the Candlelit Tales podcast.

In this series, we’re taking a look at some of the Classics of Irish mythology, those stories that most people know, or at least know a version of.

In this episode, Aron tells of beautiful Deirdre and her doomed love story. Called one of the “three sorrows of storytelling” this is one that will tug at the heart. It is also known as one of the set-up stories, or the priomhscealta, to the epic of the Táin.

To do this one justice, Aron decided to put in all the details! And as a result, we decided to make it a two-parter. This is the first of two.

Please note the content of these stories may be triggering for some listeners, please take care of yourself as you listen. This story contains mentions of coercion, grooming, persecution, death by violence, threats of rape, and suicide.
