Clay Cane says Lincoln dropped Hamlin and Picked Andrew Johnson Rebuttal #2

Listen Later

Clay Cane took to the air and told his listeners that Abraham Lincoln dropped his vice president Hannibal Hamlin in the 1864 Election and picked Andrew Johnson.

THIS IS FALSE!!!

In 1804 the 12th amendment saw a change. Vice Presidents would receive their own electoral votes

In 1864, Vice Presidents had to be elected. In fact, Andrew Johnson would receive 200 votes to Hamlin's 150 before the shift of votes where Johnson would receive 492 electoral votes to Hamlin's 9.

It would be 103 years later in 1967 with the 25th amendment that would allow for the President to pick his V.P.
