This week we spoke with Cleveland, who has been incarcerated in NYC jails for 28 months. He spent the first year of his sentence on Rikers and then was moved to the Vernon C Bain Correctional Center, commonly known as “The Boat,” which is right across from Rikers and shares many of the same conditions and staff. Cleveland talks about the many abuses of rights of the incarcerated that occur on Rikers as well as the abuses of due process in the NYC court system.
