Cliff Goldmacher talks about how to co-write successfully and how to record a pro song demo

“Co-writing, especially for songwriters who are used to writing alone – it’s a pretty daunting prospect,” says Cliff Goldmacher, owner of Nashville Studio Live and Educated Songwriter. “You’re opening up this really private, creative process to another person”.

Cliff moved to Nashville to be a songwriter. His first twenty or so songs were written alone, but he quickly discovered that in Nashville EVERYBODY Co-Writes. Cliff found himself in a “sink or swim” moment, so he decided to reach out.

He struggled with letting go of controlling every aspect of his songwriting, but then it happened. Cliff had a great co-write and realized that he’d written something better than he could have ever written alone…and it changed everything for him.

Cliff Goldmacher, a multi-instrumentalist, has recorded, played on and produced thousands of recordings for major and independent publishers, record labels, up and coming songwriters and Grammy winners.

Cliff has worked as a staff songwriter for a major Nashville publisher with songwriting collaborators including GRAMMY winner, Keb’ Mo’ and multi-platinum selling artists Ke$ha, Lisa Loeb, Chris Barron (the Spin Doctors) and Grateful Dead drummer, Mickey Hart.  His songs have been cut by major label artists in genres ranging from country, pop and jazz to classical crossover. Cliff’s music has also been used on NPR’s “This American Life,” in national advertising campaigns and as the opening song in a musical on London’s famous West End.  Finally, Cliff’s song “Till You Come To Me” went to #1 on the jazz charts and was the most played jazz song of that year.

In his capacity as an educator, Cliff has taught workshops for BMI, ASCAP, The Stanford Jazz Workshop, The Songwriter’s Guild of America, the Nashville Songwriter’s Association International, Taxi and The Durango Songwriter’s Expo. Cliff is also an author and journalist contributing articles to EQ, Recording and ProSound News magazines along with numerous music websites and blogs.
