Climate justice advocates were stunned today to hear that the Hochul administration planned to take 10 years to achieve only a 50% reduction in fossil fuels at the State Plaza complex.
State lawmakers, climate groups, and local residents have been asking Hochul to support pending legislation (A5633 / S2689) that would set a 3-year timeline to completely convert the State Capitol complex to 100% renewable energy in 3 years. The groups had previously successfully got the state legislature to amend Cuomo's proposed budget to stop his plans to add two new fracked gas turbines to the century-old polluting plant located in an environmental justice community.
