Climbing the Mountain with Jesus

Listen Later

So often when we sit down to pray, we find ourselves tangled in words that don’t quite belong to us—words that create more effort than ease, more anxiety than peace. This guided meditation offers a different way: a slower, embodied prayer that invites you to step out of mental striving and into contemplative presence.

Rooted in Matthew 14, this imaginative prayer begins at the shoreline just after the feeding of the five thousand. The crowds disperse, the disciples head out across the water, and Jesus turns toward the mountain to pray. In this meditation, you are invited not only to witness this moment—but to enter it.

You’ll be guided to notice the sensory details of the scene: the temperature of the air, the texture of sand beneath your feet, the shifting colors of dusk, the sound of crickets as night falls. From there, you walk with Jesus up the mountain, moving from busyness into solitude, from external activity into a more intimate, interior space.

As Jesus prays, you are invited to reflect:

Do you watch quietly?

Do you sit nearby?

Do you sense a conversation unfolding?

This meditation gently opens space for listening—listening for what you may be carrying, what might need to be released, and what kind of steadiness, peace, or courage is being offered to you. The practice closes by helping you return slowly to your day, carrying that grounded presence with you into ordinary life.

This is a prayer you can return to again and again—a place of quiet strength, companionship, and deep listening. This is also a quick preview of my next track on Insight Timer, which will add a little bit of music and sound effects for your listening experience. Stay tuned.
