Giuliana Hazelwood's Bedside Manner

Clinical Forgiveness & Tracy Chapman (with Seanna Sifflet, LAc, MSW)

Listen Later

Welcome back to the Bedside Manner Universe!

After a long break and a little redecorating, we are back in action with a format change! Inspired by my studies in Narrative Medicine at Columbia University, I'm asking my guests to step into the BMU to discuss a piece of art that inspires a little humanity in their clinical work. Each episode we'll unpack the movies, books, movies, artistic tropes, and iconic artists that influence the way we practice medicine.

Today we're talking about Tracy Chapman with the legendary Seanna Sifflet, LAc, MSW. I met Seanna in acupuncture school, where she supervised me as an intern during the height of the pandemic. Week after week, I watched Seanna show up for us with the salt-of-the-earth kind of warmth and understanding that leaves you feeling like an angel just handed you a big bowl of chicken soup with a hefty side order of belly laughs and a huge hug.

In this episode:

  • caregiver burnout
  • lack of supervision in the acupuncture world
  • making mistakes and saying sorry
  • how music helps us be better clinicians

  • Show Notes:

    Seanna's Tracy Chapman Playlist

    Seanna's Virtual Office Hours

Seanna's CEU Courses: The Compassionate Provider: A Compassionate Approach to Connection and Communication in the Therapeutic Relationship

BONUS: Forgiveness Practice for Caregivers Meditation & Worksheet (FREE!)
