Dr. Kate Ott. Kate is a Christian social ethicist, professor, author, and scholar whose work sits at the intersection of faith, sexuality, gender, technology, and the ways our everyday experiences shape the way we understand what it means to live faithfully.

She is the Jerre and Mary Joy Stead Professor of Christian Social Ethics and Director of the Stead Center for Ethics and Values at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary, where she also serves as the director of the Doctor of Philosophy program. She holds degrees from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Yale Divinity School, and Union Theological Seminary.

Kate is the author of Sex, Tech, and Faith: Christian Ethics for a Digital Age, Christian Ethics for a Digital Society, and Sex + Faith: Talking to Your Child from Birth to Adolescence, among other works. Her research explores Christian ethics, sexuality and gender, digital technology, children and youth, and feminist and queer ethics and theology.

But what I especially love about Kate’s approach is that she doesn’t see Christian ethics as simply a list of rules or “do’s and don’ts.” She invites us to pay attention to our lived experiences, our bodies, our communities, and the world around us as we ask what it looks like to faithfully respond to the ethical questions of our time.!
