Guilt Imputed, Corruption Inherited

In this episode of Confessional Moments, we continue our study of Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter 6, paragraph 3. This paragraph explains how the guilt of Adam’s first sin is imputed to all his descendants and how the same corrupted nature and spiritual death are conveyed to them by ordinary generation.

Drawing from Romans 5, we consider why Adam stood as the root of all mankind, how covenantal headship shapes our understanding of sin and salvation, and why the imputation of guilt in Adam is essential for grasping the hope of imputed righteousness in Christ.

Westminster Confession of Faith 6.3

“They being the root of all mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed; and the same death in sin and corrupted nature conveyed to all their posterity descending from them by ordinary generation.”
