Since I’ve been in Romania – my in-laws live a very simple life, they work and live off the land and they sit down in the evening to dinner that they’ve not bought from Marks & Spencer or Sainsbury’s, it’s come from their back garden. And we sit down and we talk into the night. That’s what I think is really missing from this world, technology has been fantastic in some ways but it’s been really detrimental for humankind in another.
- My Father left home when I was 7-year-old and I was always trying to please people, be the funny one, the class joker, getting people to like me, thinking that was the best way forward. Somebody said to me only a couple of years ago: “Jason, be true to yourself.” That’s the biggest lesson I’ve ever learned. My battery was being used on other people that don’t really care for me, so I’ve learned now to be true to myself. If I don’t agree with something, Jason of the past would nod and say nothing, now I won’t be confrontational, but I will be true to myself and I have a choice to use my feet and walk away. I’ve instilled that into my children from an early age that everyone has choices.

‘You can have all of these cars and all of these digits in the band, but what good is it without your health?’
‘Word-of-mouth is as strong as anything. Going back thousands of years there was no internet and no other form of communication other than mouth. People would sit around campfires and tell stories from their past and those stories would travel as people travelled. We’ve learned what to do and what not to do from previous experiences from other people’s lives.’
‘If you look at the 86,400 seconds that make up a day as currency, how we spend it is important. Time is precious, you can never get it back again.’
‘When money’s tight love can go out the window. You can’t live off love only, you can do a lot of things with love but money is a necessity, unfortunately, and you should also spend it wisely. But love is the most important thing. It was around 5,000 years ago and, god willing, it’ll be around in 5,000 years' time.’
