The Business can reveal the Coalition was warned a pre-election shake-up of the carbon market could kill investment to reduce pollution. The decision by then-energy minister Angus Taylor effectively ripped up carbon credit contracts, making it cheaper to pollute, but gifting a few private companies huge windfall profits.
