Codependency: Reclaiming Your Worth and Power

Episode 2. Codependency: Reclaiming Your Worth and Power

Codependency is defined as a dysfunctional relationship pattern in which an individual excessively relies on and prioritizes the needs and approval of another person, often to the detriment of their own well-being and self-identity.

If you find yourself isolated or feeling on edge in a partnership, or if you have ever thought to yourself “it’s not that bad” and made excuses for someone else’s behavior or kept it hidden, you could be in a codependent relationship.

Most of us have either been in one of these relationships or know someone who is. We can stay stuck in this type of relationship for years, not recognizing the unhealthy habitual patterns we’re living. We can also carry a lot of self-judgment and shame about being in relationships like this.

Today, our guest and co-host of the show, Carmen Walsh, shares vulnerably about her journey of codependency and healing. Beginning almost from birth, she had circumstances that very easily led to this habitual way of behaving that she didn’t recognize as codependency for almost 35 years. Carmen shares very real and raw moments from her life, gives tips for those who are experiencing codependency, and offers hope that there is a positive side to this challenging experience.

We address these main points for our listeners:

  • How do you know if you are in a codependent relationship?
  • What can you do if you want to get out of one and don’t know how?
  • What are the least helpful things you could say to a loved one in a codependent relationship?
  • How can you help someone you love to get out of one?
