CODEPINK Calls on UCSB to "Sever Ties with War Machine"

Controversy surrounds USCB’s research program involving contracts with weapons manufacturers including Raytheon. KCSB’s Robert Stark speaks with Marcy Winograd of code pink about the petition demanding that UCSB Sever ties with the military industrial complex.
This interview stated the university’s research budget is $200 million, but listeners should know that the latest figure is $300 million.
The Institute of Collaborative Biotechnologies (ICB), headquartered at UCSB, has received funding for research to develop technological innovations in systems and synthetic biology, bio-enabled materials, and cognitive neuroscience. Congressman Salud Carbajal’s office said in a statement to KCSB News that the Congressman “believes a strong national defense is essential to maintaining our domestic security and advocates for responsible, effective, and efficient defense spending with comprehensive Department of Defense audits to assure that efficiency.”
In a statement to KCSB News, UC Santa Barbara’s Shelly Leachman said that no weapons research is conducted at UCSB.
