Coffee Chat Chronicles: The Conversation That Would Not Stay in One Episode

Sensei Fred Jordan Returns and We Go Deeper: Whole Self-Alignment™ Part Two

Some conversations end when the time runs out. This one did not.

When Sensei Fred Jordan joined me on Carrie Connects™ on March 28th we ran almost 15 minutes over time and he still had more to say. So he came back. On Saturday May 30th Sensei Fred returned for Part Two and what happened in that room was exactly what I knew it would be. Deeper, more practical, and more personal than the first time.

If you missed it, this article is your invitation to watch it. If you were there, this is your reminder of what you heard and your invitation to share it with someone who needs it.

What This Episode Was Actually About

We went straight into Whole Self-Alignment™.

Sensei Fred Jordan is a United States Marine, Professor of Martial Arts Science, world record holder, doctoral degree holder, licensed investment advisor and founder of the International Martial Arts Science Association. A man who has served over 4,000 people across 300 plus schools, corporations and communities in 23 years. But none of that is what Saturday was about.

Saturday was about the framework he built from all of it. And what it can do for you.

The Tricycle You Are Riding on One Wheel

One of the most clarifying moments in the episode came when I asked Sensei Fred what happens when someone only works on one dimension of themselves; the physical, the mental or the emotional and ignores the other two.

He said it simply: you are not riding a unicycle. You are riding a tricycle with one wheel aligned and two going in different directions. You might be moving. You might even think you are making progress. But the drag is real, the time cost is real and the wear on your nervous system is real.

That landed differently for me than I expected. Because I have been that person. Pouring everything into one lane while the other two pull me sideways without me even realizing it.

The Blue Ford Tempo Moment

There was a moment in this episode that I will be talking about for a long time.

I shared something personal about driving my old blue Ford Tempo down the South Side of Chicago with bad wheel alignment and no power steering fluid. Every block took more effort than it should have. I knew where I wanted to go. I was pointed in the right direction. But I was fighting the wheel the whole way there.

Sensei Fred picked that up immediately and added something that stopped the room.

Misalignment does not just slow you down. It puts wear and tear on your nervous system.

You can feel it in your body when you are out of alignment. Most of us have just learned to call it stress and keep driving.

The First Step Out of Chaos

I asked him what the real first step is for someone who has been living inside chaos so long they do not even know what peace feels like anymore.

He said: you just have to want to.

Not in the way we usually mean it. Not the kind of want that buys a book and never opens it. The kind of want that makes you stop and ask yourself why do I want to do this? What do I actually believe? And then start there. With your breathing. With awareness. Not deep breathing techniques. Just noticing that you are breathing and what it does to your body when you pay attention to it.

That is where the alignment begins - in a breath.

What Buries the Knowing

He revisited something he said in March that this community has not stopped talking about: the baby stands up on two feet without anyone teaching it how. That knowing never leaves. It just gets buried.

On Saturday he told us what buries it.

Circumstances shape the mind. Environment, influence and what we are told about ourselves begins to quiet the internal voice that already knows. We do not lose it. We just stop hearing it because other voices get louder. And eventually we begin to define ourselves by how other people define us without even realizing that is what we are doing.

The work of Whole Self-Alignment™ is learning to hear your own voice again. Not performing alignment for the world. Feeling good about yourself because of what you know about yourself.

What Sensei Fred Knew at Eight Years Old

In the Q & A one of our audience members asked what inspired him to become a Sensei.

He said he knew at eight years old. Not in words. Not with a plan. But he knew that at some point he was going to be teaching a perspective of humanity. Martial arts gave him the platform. The framework came later. But the knowing was always there.

He said his family thought he was weird.

He said it with a smile that told you everything about what it means to trust the thing inside you that other people cannot see yet.

If You Missed It

Watch it. The full episode is available now across YouTube, LinkedIn, Facebook and Substack.

This is not a highlight reel kind of conversation. It is the kind that asks something of you while you are watching it. It asks you to look at which wheel you have been neglecting. It asks you to notice what you are feeling in your nervous system right now. It asks you to remember something about yourself that the noise has been covering up.

Come back to it more than once. Different things will land at different times.

If You Were There

Thank you for being in the room. Share this with one person this week who is riding that tricycle on one wheel and does not know it yet. You might be the reason they finally stop fighting the wheel.

And yes. Part Three is coming.
